SSC Heroes Q&A Sports Edition

Even if doing sports is considered to be a free time activity, companies tend to encourage their employees to work out as often as they can. As they say, healthy employees lead to a successful business, but you can't just build a gym on the ground floor of every big office complex. What can companies do and how is it a win-win from the employee point of view? We've asked Eszter Dobrosi, Key Account Manager at All You Can Move and self-acclaimed sports enthusiast to give us some insight into the world of corporate sports culture.

Let’s start with numbers, Eszti. What does encouraging employees to do sports mean for a company?

According to our annual survey completed by thousands of HR professionals, employees who work out 2-3 times a week can endure stress better, remain more positive, feel better and spend an average 2 days less on sick leave on a yearly basis.

Obviously that figure appears in the performance reports and the company’s annual revenue as well. Another interesting figure to consider: companies spend an average 180 euros on recruiting one person, who might just leave the company even before their trial period ends. Motivating them to stay and engaging them with free sport possibilities is definitely a way to go.

What was the most common work out activity that AYCM card was used for in 2016?
Fitness. Probably because you can choose your fitness hours very flexibly, there are places where you can do it 0-24. Besides that, swimming and yoga are highly popular as well. We believe that it’s not worth for companies to have their own sports facilities because there will always be employees for example with knee injuries who cannot lift weight in gyms but would love to go swimming. It’s only natural that a company isn’t able to provide all kinds of sport facilities for their employees who are in very different physical conditions. That's where we and our Club Membership all over the country comes into the picture.

Are employees in Budapest or in the countryside fitter? What’s your experience?
We don’t really see a difference here. The only thing worth noting is that while AYCM Club Members in Budapest use 2-3 different facilities, in the countryside it’s rather 1-2. But that’s due to the available sports facilities, of course in Budapest one can easily go horse riding on Monday, yoga on Wednesday and play golf on Sunday because there’s such a huge variety of sports centers that are members of AYCM.

What does working at All You Can Move mean for you? Is being fit and doing sports embedded into your company culture as well?
Oh I love this question. I think we’re a very successful team because we believe what we stand for and what we promote to our partners. We love doing sports and try new things as well, but being human beings, it happens that we kick off the office mornings with waffles and cakes. One of our favorite things is when we work out together with the Club Members and participate in Balaton runs for example. That really brings the core concept of our business and vision the closest possible to us. Our leaders know that employee satisfaction is the key, because satisfied employees make their clients happy.

Are you more of an individual or a group sport kind of girl?
Absolutely depends on my mood. Sometimes I like to go on my own and just swim or run to clear my head.  I love to work out with my colleagues or our partners as well, and having access to basically every AYCM Club Member facility, I can enter anywhere.

I’ve got my gym clothes with me in the car every day, because I never know where I’ll end up to do some sports. Last time while my car was at the mechanic, I popped into a yoga studio 2 streets away for 1-2 hours. That’s what All You Can Move means. The liberty of movement.
